Me: Boys are you
hungry?
Boys: Starving!
Me: What sounds good?
Boys: I don’t know,
what sounds good to you?
Me: Nothing really,
what sounds good to you?
Boys: I don’t know….
When I finally come up with something we are missing one ingredient.
Me: Who wants to go
to the grocery store?
Boys: Go ahead mom we
want to stay here.
Too be honest this sucks!
It makes cooking not fun and dinner time a chore. So about a month ago I decided that we needed
a change.
I decided that Tuesday night shopping works best for us and
our schedule. Sunday night I sit down
with my newspapers to cut out coupons and then do my meal planning. I am not one of those crazy coupon ladies
that takes all the soap but I do appreciate a good bargain. The boys are in charge of cooking one night a
week. They can cook whatever they want. It is usually something easy like fish sticks
and M&C or spaghetti but they are learning and that is the most important
part. Monday nights we usually do a
meatless dish and Tuesday is some sort of taco/Mexican meal. Cameron and Tony both have after school
activities on Wednesday so I usually try to do a crock pot meal for that
day. Following this model has really
helped out! We all work together to make
sure that we have a good variety for each night.
Freezer cooking is a big thing on Pintrest. We have tried a couple recipes for our
crockpot night. It seems to be working
out pretty good and it is bringing new meals into our rotation.
I found a magnetic meal plan board from Target ( organizher, office supply section)that I use to
let us know what is for dinner each night.
It is now posted on the fridge.

I have found this to be really helpful each night at dinner
and with our grocery budget.
What have you found helpful in meal planning? Where do you look for new recipes when you
feel no inspiration in the kitchen?
